Learning to Fall
[ August 4th, 2008 ] by GrantAt our church service on Sunday we had a visiting preacher from Australia, Tony Rainbow (Tony Rambo), and he shared his mesage with us on which he spoke on how “failure was not an option, it was a given”. That is we are meant to fail in order for us to succeed. He then went on to share, in one of his points, on how Russian trapeze artists, when they first start their training, are taught, first and foremost, how to fall. In other words they are given the impression it is OK to fall - in fact falling is part of the process of getting better but you must know how to fall properly.
Well, life is much like this principle. We will make mistakes, we will say the wrong things, hey we even make the wrong decisions that could cost us money but in learning to fall or in essence learning from the errors, we move on and become better people. It generally is hard to grasp what the failure process is teaching us right within the midst of that process but as we work through it and then ultimately look back from whence we came we can see that we actually did achieve a victory and then we come to realise that we are in fact “people in process”. A process of change for the better.
Week 5 - July 2008 - Wine Tasting
[ July 31st, 2008 ] by GrantLiquid gold - no really, it is. I photographed a wine tasting evening at AL63 Restaurant Cafe Bar for the Meinert Wine Estate. They saved the best until last! Below we have some ‘T‘. It’s a noble late harvest dessert wine, which I don’t normally enjoy, but this was delightful with so many notes of flavour. It got a 5 star rating from Platters. Thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Brand building in South Africa
[ July 31st, 2008 ] by GrantI was very entrigued when I came across this video of an ol’ school mate of mine, Rui Esteves, who started the Vida e Caffe coffee franchise. Being a coffee lover myself and especially enjoying the Vida brand, Rui has some very interesting points he’s brought up in this presentation he made at a HeavyChef online media event. Rui has since sold the Vida franchise and is now building the CSG Portugal beer brand.
Week 4, July 2008
[ July 21st, 2008 ] by GrantTaking a greater perspective on life! The Digital Valley team and friends took some time out to traverse the Northern Drakensberg and spend a night in tents at 3000m above sea level. Quite a challenge with the season leading into the winter months but an amazing time with some incredible scenery. You definitely are able to unwind completely at a time such a this and experience the full beauty of God’s creation.
Week 3, July 2008
[ July 15th, 2008 ] by GrantA bridge I cross almost daily but in the Winter of ‘07 it was the end of the day and I was on my way home when I saw the moon rising between the arches. Fortunately I had my camera with me - surprisingly (but no tripod)! So I was super chuffed when I was able to hand-hold the equipment still enough to capture this memorable scene.
